Earlier this week, JET and I decided we should finally venture off the island, and not just to Brooklyn, because it’d be typical of Manhattan residents to just go hop on the subway and travel to some hip new dismaying-ly chic part of Brooklyn and then call it a trip.

Instead, we decide to go to Astoria in Queens, a place I’ve only passed by via taxi on my way to an airport.

We ate lunch at Mezzo Mezzo on Ditmars Blvd at 33rd Street. It was great–food, ambiance, service, proximity to the subway stop. We even sat outside in the sun since NYers will soon be unable to do such a thing until June 2009. Our waiter was incredibly nice and even gave us free dessert after teasing us about not finishing out four plates of food and bread basket.

Then we just walked around, enjoying the low-lying buildings and all the sunlight that could be appreciated as a result. There are a mind-boggling and subsequently incredibly comforting number of bakeries and ice creams shops in Astoria. These are my kind of people.

It’s unfair that I start enjoying the other boroughs now that I’m soon taking away the opportunities to do so.

Since ZF left the apartment, we don’t have much in the way of framed work around the house. And in a house full of women, forward-thinking and, yes, very much feminist women, I decided to muck up the pot a bit.

Because, honestly, if you can’t laugh at either of these, you’re losing your perspective.
